Molloy College DYA Chapter Welcomes New Members

Dominican Young Adults USA

On Sunday, Jan. 13, 13 students from Molloy College, along with four Dominican Volunteers from the East Coast, met at our motherhouse for a day of prayer. The day began with the young people attending the 10:45 a.m. liturgy at the motherhouse, and then joining the congregation for dinner in the dining room.

Sister Margaret Galiardi, OP then led the group to Rosary Hall, where they began their afternoon of prayer. The afternoon was a wonderful mixture of silent reflection, sharing, and group prayer. As an onlooker, it seemed to be an experience that was enjoyed by all.

A fitting conclusion to the day was their attendance at our evening vespers. At vespers, the members of the Dominican Young Adult group, with their parents, our sisters, associates, and other friends of the congregation in attendance, made their commitments to the DYA Molloy Chapter. Eleven new members made their first commitment, while two other members recommitted for another year.

It was a tremendously hope-filled time for all in attendance as these young people committed themselves to an organization which imbues the four pillars of Dominican Life, prayer, study, community and mission. As each young person recited these words:

I promise…

To live out the four pillars of Dominican life:

Prayer, study, community and preaching.

To participate in both personal and communal

prayer in order to deepen my relationship with God.

To study the Word of God and the Signs of the Times.

To engage in preaching the Word of God,

the Good News, through service to my local community.

…there was a feeling in the chapel, that our “charism and mission” are in good hands. Indeed, the “preaching will continue”…
