The Preaching Continues | Action Plans
At the end of the conference, students are challenged with the creation of an action plan for the upcoming school year. This plan is the vehicle for sharing what they have learned at the conference to their college campuses. With the Dominican Charism firmly planted in mind, body, and spirit – the “Holy Preaching” continues!
2019 Action Plans
Albertus Magnus High School
We, the preachers of Albertus Magnus High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- continue to uplift the 4 Dominican Pillars to our Albertus Family;
- to encourage students, faculty and staff to use their diverse talents to enrich our preaching both in school and in outside communities.
Colegio San Antonio
We the preachers of Colegio San Antonio, Isabela, PR, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- This conference opened our eyes on the importance of being a part of the Dominican family and the responsibilities that come with it. We plan on making sure that every student in our school knows how blessed they are to be a part of it.
- Our school currently does not have a preaching team, so we’re planning to initiate one this year.
- We would also like to incorporate the art of liturgical movement into our prayers and masses.
- Preaching about the signs of the times is also something that we would like to take to our school because we consider it to be very important in our current day and feel very passionate about it.
Dominican High School
We, the preachers of Dominican High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Campus Ministry will create service opportunities that mirror the ministries of the Dominican Saints.
- We will engage in the discipleship model to invite students to join the planning committees in Campus Ministry.
Edgewood High School
We, the preachers of Edgewood High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Just as water from different Dominican schools was blended here at this conference to show our connection to one another and as a symbol of our solidarity, we will blend this water back at our school with water from different communities in our city in which we serve, and let that combined water be sign and inspiration for our renewed commitment to our Dominican mission.
- We will take what we learned here this week about undoing racism in our school at a personal and communal level to incorporate into our school’s development of a Social Justice Summit for the student body as well as tap into resources highlighting our Church’s response to immigration policies and raising awareness in our school about the realities faced by immigrants in our nation and how we can respond.
Fenwick High School
We, the preachers of Fenwick High School, committed to preaching the gospel in the following ways:
- increasing opportunities for students to pray in various ways for the strengthening of their personal faith;
- incorporating the “signs of the times” into our daily school prayer;
- increasing opportunities for students to do service communally.
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
We, the preachers of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We would like to incorporate a student-wide service day at our school similar to the one we did here.
- We would like to continue to spread awareness of the Dominican charism, pillars and different styles of preaching to our school community as well as encourage more participation at our liturgies;
- We would like to implement a painted labyrinth on our campus to offer a space for students to meditate, pray, destress, etc. from their studies and other daily activities.
ICA Cristo Rey
We, the preachers of ICA Cristo Rey, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- ICA is a diverse community with many first-generation Americans. Many of our students are striving to be the first to graduate high school and attend college. Therefore, as a Cristo Rey school in the Dominican tradition, it is our duty to advocate for immigrants who are deeply marginalized in our society today.
- As Campus Ministers we plan to implement short and long-term projects such as: dedicating morning prayers to immigrants; creating monthly highlights of immigration stories in the school newspaper, bulletin boards and school Instagram; and inviting yearly keynote speakers pertaining to immigrant rights and policies. We hop by simply starting a conversation we could include every unique voice that wants to be heard.
Marian Catholic High School
- We will celebrate the diversity of our school community through enhanced use of various languages and cultural traditions.
- We will raise awareness of the signs of the times and offer a better understanding of what is happening in our world.
- We will sponsor, promote, and encourage more involvement in active service.
- We will try to help our school realize that being Dominican is a way of life open to all.
Mount St. Dominic Academy
We, the preachers of Mount St. Dominic Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Encourage participation in authentic service projects that promote social justice and raise awareness of the Signs of the Times.
- Engage our audience by presenting the Gospels in alternative forms and make prayer services and liturgies interactive.
- Strengthen our community by incorporating the Five Basic Principles of Catholic Social Teaching into our Dominican Identity.
- Make our school community aware that by contributing our greatest gifts via the Four Pillars we will find Veritas.
Our Lady of the Elms
We, the preachers of Our Lady of the Elms, commit to preaching the gospel in the following ways:
- We would like to work with administration to preach Dominicanism to our fellow students and the community as a whole.
- Additionally, our Faith and Spirituality Team (FAST) would like to plan an essential needs drive for immigrants and their families residing in local detention centers.
- Finally, we are interested in exploring the possibility of monthly masses with our own Dominican sisters. This will accomplish the goal of nurturing our relationship with them, as we are inspired by our conversations with the Adrian sisters.
Rosary High School
We, the preachers of Rosary High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We will raise awareness of the signs of the times, particularly Human Trafficking, throughout the upcoming year. We will do this by sharing information during school retreats, fundraising for various organizations that support the cause, and in reflections after mass and assemblies.
- We will introduce different forms of prayer in order to broaden our prayer experience. We will do this through student led prayer, praise, meditation, intercessory prayer, and speakers similar to those we learned from here.
Sacred Heart HS
We the preachers of Sacred Heart High School, Los Angeles, CA, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Engage our students with different types of creative prayer such as making rosaries, meditation using the mandalas, found prayer, and praying the signs of the times.
- Increase awareness of issues affecting our world and finding opportunities as a community to affect change.
Sacred Heart Griffin
We, the preachers of Sacred Heart Griffin, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- To help improve student involvement in liturgical experiences such as school masses, retreats, and prayer services.
- To evaluate and update the worship experiences of the SHG community.
- To continue to develop relationships with our sister schools, Rosary High School and Marian Catholic.
San Gabriel Mission HS
We, the preachers of San Gabriel Mission HS, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Organize creative prayer services;
- Create a presentation on the 4 Pillars with a visual demonstration;
- Bring more awareness on a few justice issues, such as immigration, and hold a fundraiser for the justice cause;
- Organize a Dominican Day of Preaching Through the Arts.
Saint Agnes Academic High School
We, the preachers of Saint Agnes Academic High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We would like to introduce dramatization of the gospel to our prayer service.
- We would like to begin to use a smartboard in our liturgy/prayer services to encourage student participation.
St. Agnes Academy
We, the preachers of St. Agnes Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We will strive to form connections through our community and collaborate to create a more unified and Dominican based student body.
- We want to be aware that our actions align with the Dominican teachings: in prayer, by acknowledging each person’s unique way of authentically connecting with God; in perspectives by understanding that every individual has a unique life story and identity that shapes their faith.
- By preaching in simple ways, in our actions and interactions, we seek to weave God into all we do, understanding that God inspires everything.
St. Mary’s Dominican High School
We, the preachers of St. Mary’s Dominican High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- By integrating inter-faith dances in our grade level retreats.
- Offering a dance in partnership with St. Michael’s Special School to give special needs teenagers and their parents an opportunity for a fun night out.
- Plan a washing of the feet prayer service for the student body during Lent.
- Starting a “labyrinth week” for each grade level to participate in a labyrinth prayer experience on a different day of the week.
St. Pius X High School
We, the preachers of St. Pius X High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We will celebrate the pillar of PRAYER by having a rosary procession with our entire school community on or near the feast of the Most Holy Rosary in October.
- We will celebrate the pillar of STUDY by engaging in humane and charitable advocacy for immigrants seeking refuge by participating in a seminar or workshop to discover ways we can act directly and in charity to build up the body of Christ.
- We will coordinate the pillar of COMMUNITY with our Sister Dominican Schools participating in and attending the 2019 National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis in November to meet up and celebrate our Dominican Family.
- We will celebrate the pillar of PREACHING with an apostolic service day at The Center in Houston, which provides day services for adults with mental and physical disabilities.
2018 Action Plans
Albertus Magnus High School
We, the preachers of Albertus Magnus High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Explore ways to build awareness of justice issues through the four pillars
- Encourage new ways to celebrate our faith together
- Holding a “Dominican Day” next year
Dominican High School
We, the preachers of Dominican High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We will work to encourage the student body, faculty, and staff to more actively participate in the liturgy through the creation of a praise band, as well as the placement of students in the congregation who are willing to preach through their singing.
- We will also call greater attention to our Dominican Heritage through a full day celebration of our Congregation’s founder, Father Samuel Mazzuchelli.
Edgewood High School
We, the preachers of Edgewood High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We will collaborate with the Campus Ministry Team to coordinate an opening prayer service during out all-school Service Day that focuses on service as a form of preaching to which everyone is called.
- We will also Mentor other Peer Ministry students at Edgewood in incorporating Dominican Spirituality and themes more directly into school liturgies, retreats, and celebrations in an inclusive and meaningful way.
Fenwick High School
We, the preachers of Fenwick High School, committed to preaching the gospel in the following ways:
- Institute Dominican Week that will promote and emphasize the Dominican Identity of the school.
- Recognize those who exceed the required amount of service.
- Promote the offering of daily morning mass.
Flintrock Sacred Heart Academy
We, the preachers of Flintrock Sacred Heart Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- By incorporating all the Dominican Values and Pillars into our daily life, as well as creating awareness of our rich Dominican Heritage and the Signs of the Times to our School Community.
- Preach the gospel through service – partnering with agencies in the Los Angeles community.
- To preach through the arts, especially by making rosaries and praying for our Dominican school community.
ICA Cristo Rey
We, the preachers of ICA Cristo Rey, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Through providing different prayer opportunities for our community, including dance and the Rosary
- By building our social justice quarter projects. By highlighting how social justice issues are interconnected, like a tapestry, where each issue does affect every individual in some way
- Offering times when members of our community can explore their faith and spirituality in greater depth
Marian Catholic High School
- We, the preachers of Marian Catholic High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We will emphasize our Dominican Identity so that all members of our community can better understand and celebrate our Mission
We will promote unity and school spirit by finding new ways to live out the pillars of “community”
We will dedicate ourselves to study and educate our community on the signs of the times
We will offer more prayer services to enhance the spiritual life of our school.
Mount St. Dominic Academy
We, the preachers of Mount St. Dominic Academy, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Incorporating the rosary into school-wide prayer times
- Investigating and finding solutions for internal social justice issues in our school community
- Develop stronger relationships with the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell
- Increase the amount of designated reflection time after prayer services
We, the preachers of Our Lady of the Elms, commit to preaching the gospel in the following ways:
- To join our Bishop, Nelson Perez, in his mission and initiative with the immigration process.
- To connect more fully with the retired sisters on campus and include them in school activities.
- To further integrate the Dominican Pillars into student life and our school’s identity
- To encourage more interfaith prayer experiences within our all campus community – preschool through grade 12.

- Celebrate mass with neighboring schools once a year
- Incorporate preaching conference activities into Regina Dominicans campus ministry events
- Work with language clubs to create a rosary procession
- Create a service club that offers a variety of service and has a reflections
Rosary High School
We, the preachers of Rosary High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- We would like to introduce our school to the prayer form in Interfaith Mission of the Order
- We would also like to incorporate more visual elements within our various class retreats throughout the year
- Finally, we would like to be more intentional in focusing our daily morning prayer on the social justice topics discuss here as well as the many other signs of the times.
Sacred Heart Griffin
We, the preachers of Sacred Heart Griffin, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- To provide opportunities for authentic and genuine student preaching during masses, days of prayer and retreats throughout the year
- To examine the aspects of ongoing programs such as interfaith education, our service program, and the use of multicultural languages at our school (such as “heart language”)
- To continue to develop relationships with our sister schools, Rosary High School, and Marian Catholic
San Gabriel Mission HS
We, the preachers of San Gabriel Mission HS, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Advocate for the deeper inclusion and study of the 4 Pillars in our religion classes
- Create more opportunities for social justice education and community service projects
- Continue to grow our skills as student preachers in service of sharing the Good News

- Planning interactive masses and prayers services

- By introducing the praying of Our Heart language for the Our Father at Mass, and doing the petition responses in English, Spanish, and Chinese
- We will also make a short video promoting the Preaching Conference to other students
St. Mary’s Dominican High School
We, the preachers of St. Mary’s Dominican High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Give our reflections from the depths of our hearts and provide more service opportunities
- Be more conscious of our ecological footprint
- Increase interfaith awareness
- Write subject based prayers for the teachers
St. Pius X High School
We, the preachers of St. Pius X High School, commit to preach the gospel in the following ways:
- Prayer: We commit to adopting prayer partner sisters from among our retired Dominican Sisters of Houston, to hold them in prayer, celebrate special occasions like corporate communion, feast days, and birthdays
- Study: We commit to participate in the further study of gender pay equity and engage in advocacy and awareness with our school and our own Dominican Sisters of Houston
- Community: We will make a pilgrimage to our sister school in Isabella, Puerto Rico, the Collegio San Antonio, to join them in their century jubilee in February 2019
- Preaching: We, the 2018 Conference delegates will preside and preach at the august faculty/staff in-service days

We, the Dominican preachers of Albertus Magnus of Bardonia, New York, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- To make students and faculty more aware of the Four Pillars and our Dominican traditions.
- To make our liturgies and prayer services more meaningful and inclusive through art and technology.
- To continue to promote the Dominican call to justice.

We, the Dominican preachers of Dominican High School, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will integrate heart language Our Father at every Mass.
- Integrating movement into prayer experiences.

We, the Dominican preachers of Fenwick High School, Oak Park, Illinois, sponsored by the Friars of Central Province, St. Albert the Great, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Using morning prayer to educate and reflect on current events, using the signs of the times
- Forming a network of Dominican preachers in Chicagoland area.
- Furthering the knowledge of our Dominican heritage by creating pamphlets explaining each artwork located around the school.

We, the Dominican preachers of Immaculate Conception Academy from San Francisco, California, sponsored by the Dominican Sister of Mission San Jose, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Being preachers in action to work within our school and the community to address social justice issues.
- To incorporate different ways of preaching the Gospel and to help our community remember their messages
- To preach though the arts, to run workshops on making rosaries, Morovian stars, and others.

We, the Dominican preachers of Mount St. Dominic Academy, from Caldwell, New Jersey, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We intend to close each prayer service with the Dominican blessing and the sign of peace.
- We commit to developing a three-year strategic plan to become a more sustainable school community.
- We will act out the Gospel during a few prayers services this school year.
- We intend to make service a more vital component to the Dominican Preacher community.

We, the Dominican preachers of Regina Dominican High School, Wilmette, Illinois, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will increase student engagement with the Gospel with Gospel reflections in our school’s newspaper.
- We will connect to Dominican roots by becoming pen pals with Adrian Dominican Sisters assigned to each homeroom and connecting our service to Dominican ministries when possible.
- We will continue Dominican community by forming a network of Dominican preachers in Chicagoland area.

We, the Dominican preachers of Sacred Heart High School, Los Angeles, California, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Reintroduce our Dominican saints and our class patron saints in new ways and at various times.
- We’d like to become more knowledgeable about the signs of times, especially dealing openly with racism.

We, the Dominican preachers of San Gabriel Mission High School, San Gabriel, California, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We hope to use varied forms of prayer on our retreats and in our prayer services.
- We’d like to introduce our Dominican saints to our school.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Agnes Academy, Memphis, Tennessee, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will improve our liturgies and prayer services using the information we learned here.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Catherine High School, Racine, Wisconsin, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Racine, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- All preachers will participate in a leadership summit this fall to promote mentorship and school culture, rooted in the Dominican pillars. l students, especially new students to understand and participate in Mass
- The Preachers will take part in teaching Masses and instruction to help all students, especially new and non-Catholic students, better understand and participate in Mass.
- The Preachers will work together with Campus Ministry to plan our beginning of the year prayer service, incorporating elements we learned during our prayer planning sessions.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Mary’s College, Adelaide, Australia, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of the Holy Cross, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- To study Dominican saints and apply their preaching to our present lives.
- To develop close community with other Australian Dominican schools.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Pius X High School, Houston, Texas, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Houston, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will attend temple services in one of our local synagogues to advance the ecumenical mission of the Order and the pillar of prayer.
- We will participate in a local symposium, workshop, or conference on racism in a spirit of study in order to love.
- We will partner with our own Dominican Sisters to have prayer partners for the year for all the members of the preaching team, celebrating our Dominican community.
- We will, as a preaching team, engage in a service to the guests of Loaves and Fishes, a local soup kitchen and hospitality center for homeless men and women, using our gifts to preach.

We, the Dominican preachers of Colegio San Antonio, Isabella, Puerto Rico, sponsored by the Amityville Dominican Sisters, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will connect with people to God through the arts. One of the ways we believe our peers will be engaged is by dancing.
- By applying the concepts we learned, we plan to have more social justice projects.

We, the Dominican preachers of Edgewood High School, Madison, Wisconsin, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Be mentors in our peer ministry class as we engage our classmates in planning and leading meaningful liturgies that incorporate our Dominican heritage and four pillars.
- During our school’s Fine Arts Week, Involve our student artists in leading other students in hands-on sessions that encourage preaching through the arts.

We, the Dominican preachers of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Canada, California, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We plan to preach in our own heart languages as we are an international boarding school.
- Explore the idea of sustainability when making decisions on school lunch packaging.
- Integrate technology into our Masses.
- Set in place an outreach program spanning the entire year where clubs come together to help a cause they are passionate about.

We, the Dominican preachers of Marian Catholic High School from Chicago Heights, Illinois, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will promote preaching in action through the example of our own involvement in service projects.
- We will celebrate diversity by highlighting the numerous cultures that are part of our school community
- We will encourage a love of study so that our study will help us to love and bring light to the darkness in our world.
- Emphasize Dominican values so Marian Catholic is better able to understand, live, and celebrate our charism

We, the Dominican preachers of Our Lady of the Elms High School, Akron, Ohio, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will establish a community-wide book club or reading group that focuses on St. Dominic and the Dominican saints. We can meet once per month before school starts in the morning.
- The Dominican Pillars are now only in evidence in one place. We’ll work with the art class on design that can be used throughout the school buildings.

We, the Dominican preachers of Rosary High School, Aurora, Illinois, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We commit to educating Rosary about the Dominican traditions and implement them into our school life.
- We commit to living up to our school name by praying the rosary learning about its history.
- We commit to introducing a day dedicated to serving those affected by social injustices.

We, the Dominican preachers of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Springfield, Illinois, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- To share the experience of this conference with others and to preach the Dominican values throughout our school.
- To continue our new bonds with our sister schools, Marian Catholic and Rosary High School.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Agnes Academic High School, College Point, New York, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Amityville, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Concentrate on school-wide prayer services (liturgies), incorporating what we learned on this conference.
- Connect with the food pantry in our neighborhood and arrange to volunteer monthly.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Agnes Academy, Houston, Texas, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Houston, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- We will create an affirmation wall to ensure our preaching team feels loved and appreciated so they can embody our school theme of “courage to care” within our community.
- We will create a culture of sustainable faith within our school by working with our campus ministry team to provide more opportunities to pray throughout the school year.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. John the Baptist High School, West Islip, New York, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Amityville, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Work with Campus Ministry in preparing our school-wide prayer days.
- Establish a Veritas Team with interested underclassmen.
- Team Veritas will coordinate morning prayer once a month for the school community on our campus TV show.

We, the Dominican preachers of St. Mary’s Dominican High School, New Orleans, Louisiana, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- Incorporating a school-wide service day.
- Monthly adoration available for students.

We, the Dominican preachers of Trinity High School, River Forest, Illinois, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, commit to preach the Gospel in the following ways:
- To share with our community the knowledge that we are part of a global Dominican family
- As Dominicans, in words and actions, to seek embody the truth of our shared Gospel values.
