DYA Molloy Celebrates Lessons and Carols at Amityville Motherhouse

Dominican Youth Movement USA

Lessons and Carols is celebrated each year in December at the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Amityville Motherhouse. The sisters, associates, friends and family, Dominican Young Adults, and many more are invited to this yearly tradition.

Those in attendance enjoyed four reflections and carols which ended in a joy-filled rendition, with bells in hand, of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” The Christmas spirit was felt by all!

Prior to the service, members of the Molloy chapter of Dominican Young Adults USA spread the Christmas spirit throughout the halls of the Motherhouse caroling to those who wouldn’t be able to make it to the service and celebrate with sisters.

Emily Brierley, a member of Molloy’s DYAUSA chapter, reflected on the day saying, “visiting with the sisters is one of the most enriching and enlightening experiences a member of Dominican Young Adults can hope to attend.”

In this busy time of the year it’s seems far too easy to forget the true meaning of the Advent and Christmas season. Emily felt the visit “provided the young people with new perspectives on the Advent season.” Brierley added, “I know that I often have an incredibly hard time finding myself in the contemplative and waiting attitude that is often associated and talked about with the Advent season. The sisters encouraged us to contemplate the true meaning of Christmas from differing perspectives and go out of our way to do something kind for those in need.”

Thank you to Sr. Barbara Schwarz, OP for the photographs.
