DOMINICAN VILLAGE

Mission Statement:
Dominican Village, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, New York, is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian rental retirement community and assisted living residence. Its mission is to provide a supportive environment in which the sacredness of life and the dignity of each person are held in the highest regard and to offer its residents a choice of programs and services which foster independence, promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, and maximize opportunities for socialization.

Volunteer Opportunities:
There are daily, and monthly events for the residents that would welcome volunteers to assist. These include programs, games, and other activities.

HOMECOMING FARM

Mission Statement:
Homecoming is a not-for-profit organization committed to the understanding that the human and natural world is one community of life. A sponsored ministry of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville welcoming people of all faith communities, we believe that when we care for the Earth, we care for ourselves, each other and future generations while creating sustainable communities.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Opportunity to work alongside our farmer planting, seeding, weeding and harvesting crops.

AMITYVILLE MOTHERHOUSE

Mission Statement:
Rooted in the belief that all persons participate in Christ’s continued mission in the world, Dominican Sisters of Amityville, as a Congregation, seek to share that mission of bringing the reign of God to fulfillment. Dominic recognized the needs of his age and commissioned his followers to proclaim the truth, the Dominican Sisters of Amityville continue to respond to each age as it unfolds, committing themselves to an active – contemplative life that proclaims God’s reign.

Volunteer Opportunities:
There are always opportunities to minister to the sisters who are in residence at the Motherhouse. Activities, games, parties, outings, and prayer services are but a few of the everyday activities where volunteers are always needed. Some months there are special events that would where additional hands could always be used.

BETHANY HOUSE

Mission Statement:
Bethany House is a composite of residential options for women and children who are caught in the crisis of homelessness. Bethany defines its mission as a response to its belief that each person deserves and needs adequate food, clothing, and shelter, provided in a nurturing and sustaining environment.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Opportunity to work along side staff assisting the women and their children in structured activities.

OPENING WORD PROGRAM

Mission Statement
The Opening Word is a literacy, ESOL, and job readiness program; the purpose of which is to unlock the language ability of adult participants, providing them with a key to future personal empowerment, increased civic and social responsibility and enhanced skills for membership in the workforce.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Opportunities for individualized tutoring sessions with participants or to work alongside a teacher with a small group.

The Dominican Youth Movement USA (DYMUSA) is a nationwide non-profit organization connecting youth/young adults to the Dominican Order’s tradition of preaching with their own call to preach. In 2015 DYMUSA brought together five different programs engaging young people of high school age through their young adult years – unifying their support and promoting their collective social impact.
